Hello, Dude

September 18, 2012

Marc Leder, the host of the fundraiser for Mitt Romney where the presidential candidate said, famously,

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

is known for being quite the party boy:

In August 2011, the same tabloid reported on a Hamptons bacchanal at a $500,000-a-night oceanfront mansion rented by Leder, “where guests cavorted nude in the pool and performed sex acts, scantily dressed Russians danced on platforms and men twirled lit torches to a booming techno beat.”

All of this is bizarre enough.  As Paul Krugman writes, “Clearly, we’re living in a bad political novel written by some kind of liberal.”  The truth of the matter, however, is that we’re living in a brilliant political film written by the Coen brothers, with Mitt Romney as the rich Jeffrey Lebowski and Marc Leder as Jackie Treehorn.
